Gipson-Long's Rehab Progress Raises Questions About MLB Readiness
The Tigers pitching prospect is still recovering from Tommy John surgery, with velocity lagging behind the threshold scouts want to see before a call-up.

Sawyer Gipson-Long is working back from Tommy John surgery that wiped out the 2024 season and most of 2025. In a Toledo rehab start Saturday, he struck out eight over five innings but his fastball sat around 92 mph rather than the 93-95 mph range considered necessary for MLB consideration. He allowed two runs in the first inning before settling down, giving up only two more hits with no walks the rest of the outing. His return timeline remains uncertain given the velocity gap.
