Minnesota designates struggling starter/reliever SWR for assignment after poor results; Klein joins roster from Triple-A St. Paul.
The Twins officially designated Simeon Woods Richardson for assignment after he posted a 7.74 ERA over 47.2 innings this season, walking nearly as many batters as he struck out. Woods Richardson had been removed from the rotation two weeks prior but made an emergency start Thursday when Kendry Rojas was scratched with an elbow issue, allowing five runs in 2.2 innings. With no minor league options remaining, the Twins had little flexibility to keep him. Right-hander John Klein, already on the 40-man roster, was called up from Triple-A to fill the roster spot.
