Mets catcher Francisco Alvarez is ahead of schedule after meniscus surgery and will begin a rehab stint with Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday.
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza confirmed Sunday that Francisco Alvarez will begin his rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Syracuse. Alvarez had right meniscus surgery on May 14, one day after being placed on the 10-day IL. He has been catching bullpens, blocking, running, and throwing during his recovery. Mendoza noted the original timeline was eight weeks but suggested Alvarez could return sooner given his rapid progress.
