MLBPA Opens CBA Talks With Bold Spending and Salary Demands

The players union's first proposal targets luxury tax thresholds, low-spending teams, and minimum salaries as collective bargaining begins.

The MLBPA has submitted its opening CBA proposal, calling for the competitive balance tax threshold to rise from $244M to $300M. The union also wants a 'competitive-integrity tax' penalizing any team that spends below $150M on payroll. Minimum player salary would double from $780,000 to $1.5M under the proposal. Changes to revenue sharing are also included, aimed at redirecting more local revenue to players.
